Upcoming August Events in Hawaii

OAHU
August 3-5:  7th Annual Waimanalo Country Fair
This family-friendly festival will have local ethnic food, Hawaiian crafters, music and entertainment. Located at the Waimanalo Beach Park from noon-midnight.

August 9:  Ke Kani O Ke Kai: The Sound of the Ocean
The last concert of this summer series will be held August 9. Held on the Waikiki Aquarium lawn, guests will be treated to music as the sun sets. Doors open at 5:30, performance begins at 7pm. Purchase concert tickets online.

August 18:  The Kahala Wine & Food Festival: A Celebration of France
The Kahala Hotel & Resort is hosting this culinary event from 7-10pm. Guests will enjoy sampling a variety of wines from several vintners as well as gourmet dishes of France. August 25-26:  Waikiki Artfest
Come to Kapiolani Park from 9-4 for this free artfest. Local artists will have their works on display and for sale.

MAUI
August 25:  Cycle to the Sun
Cyclists from around the world compete in a legendary 36 mile uphill race on Maui from beachside Paia to the 10,000 foot summit of Haleakala. For more information and to register visit their website.

August 31 – September 2:  Kaanapali Fresh
Kaanapali Beach Resort presents this new 3-day summer event highlighting Kaanapali’s cuisine and activities. Visitors will get to sample cuisine, learn about Maui’s farmers, and play on the beach. For ticket options and to see the complete schedule check out their website.

BIG ISLAND
August 16-25:  2012 International Haari Boat Festival
The Wailoa State Park and river in Hilo will host the Haari Boat Festival. For festival information and the complete schedule visit their website.

August 18:  Don the Beachcomber Mai Tai Festival
Watch as bartenders compete for the title of Best Mai Tai and $10,000. This free event will also have a farmers market, live entertainment, mai tai samplings, and food from local restaurants. Located at the Royal Kona Resort.

August 26:  Kokua Kailua 2012
From 1-6pm, Alii Drive along scenic Kailua Bay in Historic Kailua Village will become a pedestrian-only walkway and marketplace. Enjoy music, vendors, shopping, and dining.

KAUAI
August 11:  Hawaii Sand Festival
Build your own sand castle or work of art during this free event in Hanalei. World-renowned sand sculptor Jeff Peterson will be giving a demonstration at 11:30. Prizes will be given out to kids and adults. The festival runs from 11-4pm and is located to the left of the Hanalei pier and to the right of Pavilions on Kauai.

August 23-26:  Kauai County Farm Bureau Fair
This annual Kauai event is one of the largest on the island. There will be plenty of food, rides, and entertainment for the whole family. Located at Vidinha Stadium in Lihue. Hours are 6pm-midnight Thursday & Friday; noon-midnight Saturday; noon-11pm Sunday. Adult admission is $5.
